Your First Visit
Many people have questions about the treatment procedures and diagnostic processes involved in their chiropractic experience. The following paragraphs will help explain the process of your first visit with Dr. Metzler making your experience as comfortable as possible.
Patient Forms
We try to keep our paperwork to a minimum. You will be asked to fill out an online intake form prior to your first visit. If you are unable to fill out the online form you can fill out and print the forms here.
Consultation
Your first visit is designed for Dr. Metzler to discover more about you, your condition, and your expectations in order to determine whether his style of chiropractic care is right for you. During this time, you should feel free to ask any questions or address any concerns you might have. If Dr. Metzler believes you are a good candidate for care, he will proceed with the examination.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Metzler will perform a complete chiropractic examination that will test your reflexes, the strength of various muscle groups, joint motion, as well as other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical examinations. Please bring loose fitting clothing or gym shorts and a t-shirt if that area of injury in covered by your dress clothes. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
X-Ray Studies/MRI Studies
Although the majority of patients’ cases do not require special studies, Dr. Metzler will refer you out to another specialist if deemed necessary based on the consult and physical exam. If you have previous x-rays or special study reports, please bring them to your appointment if available.
Report of Findings
After all the information from your exam has been gathered, Dr. Metzler will review it and treatment will begin immediately unless deemed unsafe, not needed, or you need to be referred out to another specialist. At your next visit, he will have developed a treatment plan that fits your specific needs and what he believes will be the most effective for you after reviewing your case thoroughly. He will see how you responded to treatment, and will also make recommendations for what he believes is the best way to treat your condition and discuss how long treatment will take. He will also discuss the cost of care and address any other concerns you may have that were not answered during the exam.
Treatment
The treatment may consist of chiropractic adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. In addition, exercises and nutrition counseling will be incorporated if necessary. Dr. Metzler will be sure to explain what he is doing the first time so that you are as comfortable as possible.
Length of Appointment
Your first visit to see Dr. Metzler will typically last about 45 minutes. This should be enough time to perform the consultation, exam and treatment. Dr. Metzler wants to have the necessary time to carefully consider your case and personalize your treatment plan. Subsequent visits typically last 20 minutes. Dr. Metzler does not want to rush matters connected to your health and this process was specifically created to deliver the best and most personal care possible.
